The biggest accidents waiting to happen are clothes dryers. The combination of heat, natural gas, lint and the potential for static electricity for the ignition source are all found in dryers. Here are the problems I have observed over the years: Lint traps are not cleaned, especially by renters. Walking out of the condo leaving the dryer unattended. Improperly ventilated dryer enclosures.
Please make sure that you are doing the following: lint traps are cleaned after every drying event and that no dryer should be left unattended and a fire extinguisher should be placed within proximity of the dryer.
The following web site will help consumers find all kinds of items that have been recalled: http://www.cpsc.gov. - Everyone in the family needs to know how to operate a portable fire extinguisher. Just remember the word PASS. P: pull the pin to release the locking mechanism. A: aim low, at the base of the fire. S: squeeze the handle. S: sweep the spray from side to side, as if you were hosing down a sidewalk. From Tiptionary by Mary Hunt.
